Beer drinkers battle it out in Denver
Crowds gathered at the Wynkoop Brewing Company on Saturday for The Beerdrinker of the Year finals in Denver.
This was no ordinary competition; this competition brought three of the top beer conducers from the nation. The finals tested their beer knowledge, tasting ability and overall love of the frosty brew.
The first finalist was James Clark from Springfield, Virginia. James visited 15 establishments in four countries from All About Beer Magazine’s “125 Places to Have a Beer Before You Die” list. His motto is, “Live life to the brim!” Finalist No. 2 was Mike Dixon from Wake Forest, North Carolina. Mike has visited over 600 beer establishments in the U.S. and Belgium. His beer philosophy is, “Every glass of beer should be a new adventure.” Finalist No. 3 was Phil Farrell from Cumming, Georgia. Phil is a grand master beer judge and a four-time Beerdrinker finalist. His philosophy is, “Fear no beer. All of my beeroes, were fearless.”
Metromix will be the first to say that not only were these guys the king of beer but also very funny. The judging panel and the crowd were cracking up in laughter the entire competition. There must be one winner though, and the judges had a hard decision to make. They came to a unanimous decision that Phil Farrell was the 2011 Beerdrinker of the Year!
Phil took home a lifetime of free beer at Wynkoop, $250 toward his local brewpub or bar, clothing stating they are the 2011 winner, and, of course, bragging rights!
