Dry days
And that about does it for our survey of Presidential Pisspots. Beginning in the 1970s, public displays of drinking were increasingly frowned upon. Jimmy Carter rarely indulged (brother Billy did enough for both of them); Ronald Reagan was hung up on jellybeans; Bush pere enjoyed an occasional drink but nothing to write home about; Bill Clinton, while a beer lover, maintained a “two’s-my-limit” rule; and Bush fils, while quite the hellion in his cheerleading days, has since taken the pledge. John McCain and Barack Obama are keeping their drinking habits close to the vest (though Cindy McCain owns over $1 million worth of stock in Anheuser-Busch).
Still, there is a lesson to be learned from the actions of our past bigwigs, which is this: Not just anyone can become president, but every single one of us can drink like one.
Cheers.
